Release X // Chapters 23, 24 & 25

Release X is here!

Well, it's a good thing I don't have a job and can work all day on this game, because that was close! However, I was able to make it in time. Release X is a pretty substantial release. It includes 3 chapters, 5 new interviews, updated ranks, and an astounding 6 music tracks. The reason there are so many music tracks is that last update, I really wanted to include a special theme for The Fifth. However, I simply didn't have time because my first go at it was not up to my personal quality standards. I also wanted to include a sad theme for when Nell leaves -- now there is one.

So, in addition to updating last week's chapters, there was a lot of work to be done on Chapter 23 in particular because I needed to rewrite the mystery almost entirely, though not completely. Here's some "Behind The Scenes" time...

The original mystery was called "The Pair of Dimes Shift". In it, the victim was cut in half with the wire instead of decapitated. Somehow the wire had been threaded through the keyhole of the door, and tied to a dime that ultimately served no logical purpose other than to fulfill the  pun requirements of a mystery called "The Pair of Dimes Shift". There was also a motive involving a diamond ring. It was kind of a mess. The new version, with the "double locked room murder" is way more satisfying.

Also updated: There is no longer a "play/continue" button on the main menu. You just access chapters. This is probably how I should've done it from the beginning -- the play button was pretty redundant and when testing the game myself I hardly ever used it.

And yes, there's even a new confusing minigame!

I hope you enjoy Release X -- I think Release XI will be a little easier for me to put together, thankfully.

Best,

-- LockedOn.

What a fantastic update. I get that we won't get so many new tracks very often, so I'll savour that we did, haha. I like them all, but Goodbye and Trigger Chain are fantastic. Trigger Chain especially is relaxing and peaceful, which is great since I apparently stink at all minigames save the ones in -

Oh! That reminds me. Nice business card, it's a pity the situation spiraled out of control.

I'm really liking Mellie and almost-780's interactions; but as a nautical guy myself, I'm going to insist that aquaculture is a thing of merit, though I guess that makes me a bit fishy. Detective Tourist is pretty great, too. How is he still there, maybe his method is really incredible, huh, hows' about that -

And the interviews really serve as an excellent feature. I was especially interested in Detective Honor's interview... Anyway, like Mellie, we all need sleep, so, uh, I'm hoping the next release is a bit nicer on yours, pal.

p.s. I'm sad we lost an amazing pun, but I think this was one of the strongest mysteries we've had!

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the mystery was a success! As for the minigame, I'm 100% sure that one's on me.. I'll be updating it this week to make it a bit clearer. :)
